Green Apple & Ginger Conditioner by Desert Essence

Allergy product dessert for your hair

I'm a hair care hound. I love to find good products. In fact, my husband would say that I'm addicted to trying new products! (It drives him crazy, but it's a great characteristic for a woman who reviews allergy products for a living.)

Honestly - we were getting low on shampoo and conditioner anyway.

My latest find is Desert Essence Organics. I was looking for something to give my fine, limp and long hair more volume. I'm in the process of growing out some choppy layers, and when those layers just hang, it's particularly annoying. I'm also trying to grow out some bangs, and they really need something to help them take on some shape.

When I saw the description of this conditioner as "thickening and volumizing," I decided I had to try it. If anyone's hair needs thickening and volumizing, it's mine.

This allergy product has a very light and lovely green apple fragrance. However, it's all done without any artificial fragrance. I also like that the product is 100 percent vegan, and is gluten free. (For those of you with really serious *gluten allergies[/food-allergies/gluten-wheat-allergies.aspx], this is very good news. Even skin contact with a serious food allergy can have significant consequences for some.) In addition, this allergy product is free of parabens, sodium lauryl / laureth sulfates, phthalates, artificial fragrances or colors, silicones, EDTA, glycol or any petroleum-based ingredients. How's that for allergy friendly?

In addition to the ingredient list, I also loved the fact that this allergy product made a difference in the feel of my hair right away. It felt like it had more volume, even as I was standing in the shower! Now, while I've had that experience before, it was usually with a high-end hair care product that was full of ingredients that weren't good for me. Here was an allergy product that could compete with the big salon products - and it did it without the high-end hair care price! While I paid more for this conditioner than I would have for an equivalent supermarket brand, I certainly didn't pay the wallet-draining price that I would have in a salon.

Did I mention that even my husband liked this one? After traveling through many hair and body care products with me, he told me that this one is a keeper.
