Glutino's Gluten-Free Corn Bread
A doughy allergy product
If you are celiac or allergic to gluten, you know how hard it can be to get an allergy product that both tastes good and has an appealing texture. In the past, many gluten-free breads were dry, crumbly and lacked a lot in the taste department. I know - I've been eating these breads for a long time.
In my search for reliably good gluten-free allergy products for my family, I've come to depend on Glutino. This is a brand that takes both good health and good taste seriously. They have a wide range of products, from basic mealtime staples to delicious treats for dessert. I've found that their breads have generally been among the best.
So when I noticed that Glutino had come out with a corn bread, I just had to try it.
In our family, this corn bread has become the perfect allergy product. It meets all of our requirements - it's wheat-free, milk-free and casein-free. The product also keeps your health in mind, as it's also trans-fat free, cholesterol-free and free of hydrogenated oils. And each slice is only 90 calories. The only improvement I could suggest is that the bread should be made from organic ingredients.
But let's be honest; none of that matters if you'd rather eat sawdust than eat a slice of this bread. So the best news here is that this bread tastes very good. The texture is lighter and softer than many rice-flour breads. If you are looking for something that tastes more like traditional white wheat flour bread, this is for you.
Our favorite test for a new bread is to use it when making French toast. Of the many types of bread that we've tested in this way, Glutino Corn Bread is one of the best. The corn bread absorbs the egg well, without becoming heavy. The French toast was light and fluffy, and held up well to our favorite maple syrup.
As for price, this bread is the same price as other comparable gluten-free breads. So if gluten-free bread is on your shopping list, check this one out.
